DPRK Women Footballers Return Home

Players of the Naegohyang Team returned to the DPRK on Tuesday after winning the 2025–26 AFC Women’s Champions League.

Having begun their campaign in August last year, the team scored 36 goals in nine matches from the preliminary stage through to the final, ultimately claiming the championship title.

Upon their arrival at Pyongyang International Airport, the team was warmly welcomed by senior Party and government officials, officials concerned, fellow athletes and family members.

Officials and fellow athletes placed flower garlands around the necks of the players and coaches and presented them with bouquets, congratulating them on their success.

The women footballers left the airport by bus decorated with beautiful flowers.

Citizens lining the streets gave a warm welcome to the players, who once again took Asian women’s football by storm.

DPRK Team Wins 2025-2026 AFC Women’s Champions League

The Naegohyang Team of the DPRK took the first place in the 2025-2026 AFC Women’s Champions League and had the honor of winning a trophy.

There took place the finals between the Naegohyang Team and the Tokyo Verdy Beleza Team of Japan on May 23.

In the match, the best Asian women’s football team (club team) decider, the DPRK players defeated their Japanese rivals 1:0.

The trophy and gold medals were awarded to the Naegohyang Team players and the MVP accolade to Kim Kyong Yong at the awarding ceremony.

DPRK players returned home on Tuesday after capturing the 2026 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup title in China.

The triumph was the team’s fifth in the tournament and earned it a place at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The players were welcomed at Pyongyang International Airport by senior Party and government officials, officials in the field of sports and relevant sectors, fellow athletes and their families.

Athletes presented the players and coaches with flower bouquets and placed garlands around their necks, congratulating them on their success.

As the bus carrying the players passed through the streets of Pyongyang, residents and students warmly greeted the team, celebrating its achievement in bringing honor to the country.

The players and coaches responded with warm greetings to the crowds.

DPRK Wins Record Fifth AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Title

The DPRK U17 women’s national team captured a record fifth AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup title with a dominant 5-1 victory over Japan in the final in Suzhou on Sunday. Yu Jong Hyang starred with four goals, finishing the tournament with 15 goals and earning both the Most Valuable Player and Top Goalscorer awards. The win also secured DPRK a place at the 2026 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.

DPRK’s First Gold Medals of Year

Wrestlers from the DPRK performed strongly at the Ivan Yarygin Golden Grand Prix Tournament, held in Russia from January 29 to February 1, 2026. They won five gold medals, recording the first success of the Korean athletes in the year.
