The first phase of the Tanchon Power Station in South Hamgyong Province, a project of great significance to the development of the national power industry, has been completed successfully.

Military and civilian builders engaged in carrying out the Workers’ Party of Korea’s ambitious nature-transformation projects drove waterway tunnels through the northern mountain ranges and successfully completed Units 1, 5 and 6 of the Tanchon Power Station together with two dams. Their achievement has laid another solid foundation for economic development and the improvement of people’s living standards.

A ceremony for inaugurating the first stage of the Tanchon Power Station was held at the site on May 18.

Present at the ceremony were Pak Thae Song, Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and Vice-President of the State Affairs Commission and Premier of the Cabinet of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and other senior Party and government officials, officials of the Tanchon Power Station Construction Division Command Group and relevant units, officials and working people in Hochon County of South Hamgyong Province, military and civilian builders, and employees of the power station.

The national anthem of the DPRK was played.

Premier Pak Thae Song made an inaugural address.

The premier praised the builders for completing the first phase of the Tanchon Power Station, describing the project as a proof of their indomitable revolutionary spirit and strong fighting traits.

He noted that the completion of Units 1, 5 and 6 marked an important achievement in the development of largest-scale hydraulic resources for diverting the courses of several rivers and streams to the East Sea and had provided valuable experience for future construction of power stations.

He said that there were numerous difficulties, but the idea and leadership of the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un served as a source of tremendous strength to overcome all of them and bring about the changes.

Expressing confidence in the builders as they continue their efforts to advance the project, he declared the completion of the first phase of the Tanchon Power Station.

Then he cut the inauguration tape.

Following the ceremony, a performance was held in honour of the power station builders, and a fireworks display took place.

Participants in the inauguration ceremony toured Units 1 and 5 of the Tanchon Power Station, the dams, and the residential housing built for employees.
