A Decade of Devotion and Amazing Transformation

On June 29, 2016, the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un was elected President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Ten years have now passed since that day. Anyone who has had the opportunity to speak with DPRK citizens will have noticed the profound respect they hold for their leader and the genuine emotion with which they speak about the work he carries out for the country every single day. The achievements made under his leadership fill them with happiness and pride, and they express their wholehearted support for him, describing him as the most outstanding leader.

Why is this the case? And what kind of decade has the past ten years been for socialist Korea? To answer these questions as objectively as possible, one must look at the changes and development the country has undergone during this period, as well as the circumstances in which they took place. Facts speak louder than millions of words.

The past decade has not been an easy or trouble-free period for the DPRK. It has had to confront numerous serious challenges. The sanctions regime imposed against it, already the harshest in the world, was tightened to a much more extreme degree. It was intended to be an almost complete blockade of the country’s international trade and cooperation. During this period, it was also confronted with successive natural disasters and the global public health crisis. Meanwhile, provocative military moves by forces hostile to the DPRK repeatedly created acute tension on the Korean Peninsula.

Did all of this weaken the country or halt its development? No. Thanks to the remarkably skillful and wise leadership of Marshal Kim Jong Un, the opposite occurred.

In the military sphere, for example, the DPRK expanded its national strength to an extraordinary extent. Despite being a small country with a small population and under harsh sanctions, it achieved a strategic position which had previously been reserved for the great powers, neutralizing the threat of war on its territory, ensuring strategic balance in the region, and making a great contribution to world peace.

The past decade has also been a period of innovation and dynamic development of Korean-style socialism, marked by a remarkable transformation taking place in cities and villages of the DPRK, unprecedented in its history. The capital and many other parts of the country have been transformed beyond recognition. An ambitious program for radical change in the environment of rural life has gathered momentum, while a vigorous policy for regional development has been pursued. Across the country, beautiful futuristic streets and residential districts, modern factories, farms and hospitals, impressive tourist facilities, and many other new projects have risen in rapid succession.

While leading this amazing progress over the past ten years, Marshal Kim Jong Un has never ceased working tirelessly. As he gave on-site guidance and personally led efforts to improve the people’s living conditions, he never cared whether he was standing in heavy rain or freezing in a snowstorm, nor whether it was day or night. He has devoted himself completely, under all circumstances, to implementing his policy of prioritizing the people and respecting and loving them.

In light of the facts, it is not difficult to understand the strong support he enjoys among the Korean people.
