About Mokran Project
A warm welcome to the website of the European Initiative for Truth, Friendship and Solidarity with the Korean People “Mokran Project”! Thank you for visiting.
Developing a well-informed opinion on almost any topic is not easy today. It never has been. But in today’s digital world this presents a paradox – after all, we have access to so many information channels! The quality and reliability of what they provide are often uncertain, however.
One area where this difficulty is particularly apparent is the Western media coverage of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Here, narratives are often shaped by hostile political agendas, sensationalism, and the uncritical circulation of unsubstantiated sources. The result is a discourse in which assertions ranging from outright falsehoods to, at best, selective half-truths appear with tremendous frequency.
Those who have had the opportunity to become familiar with the realities of the DPRK firsthand, who have personally visited this country and looked at its situation honestly, know that many Western media reports about it, to put it mildly, diverge from reality. So how can the DPRK be briefly characterized on the basis of honest observations?
It is certainly a truly independent country with unique political stability and a social system that is highly beneficial to its citizens. The policy of its leadership clearly focuses on ensuring the highest possible standards of living for the people and protecting their interests. And the people evidently appreciate this, because the country’s leadership enjoys exceptionally broad public support. It must also be acknowledged that, according to all objective standards, the DPRK is a country that has achieved amazingly impressive successes in its efforts for development in various fields, from the socio-economic sphere to the defense sector. To understand this, one need only become familiar with the dynamic progress and transformations that have taken place there in the past decade alone. It should also be taken into account that this occurred under conditions in which the country had to face various serious challenges, including external pressure and sanctions more extreme than any other nation has ever faced. The DPRK is also a responsible global actor that has made a substantial contribution to the preservation of peace. Finally, the DPRK is a country with a rich culture, a proud history, and wonderful people.
All these and other aspects of this interesting and beautiful country are undoubtedly worth discovering.
Mokran Project seeks to support this goal. It is an independent initiative that hopes to contribute to a better understanding of the DPRK and to disseminating knowledge about the country. Its intention is to present verified information and reliable materials about the DPRK across a wide range of topics, including politics, current developments, culture, history and everyday life. It also aims to promote friendship and solidarity with the people of the DPRK in pursuit of their goals of justice and peace. It takes its name from the national flower of the DPRK, the magnolia (Mokran, 목란).
As of late February 2026, the initiative’s website has only recently begun operating, and the amount of available content is still limited, with some sections not yet completed. This will gradually change.
